Additional Events

In addition to our many networking and annual events, the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce hosts or participates in a variety of community events, public forums, ribbon cuttings and special events.

Ribbon Cuttings & Grand Openings – Each year Ferndale attracts several new businesses due to its vibrant downtown and central location. Ribbon cuttings occur as needed year round. During 2010, the Chamber conducted around 20 different ribbon cuttings.

State of the City Address – Each Spring, the Ferndale Area Chamber hosts the State of the City Address by Ferndale’s mayor. Preceded by a cocktail reception, the State of the City Address is typically held in the evening so that both residents and business owners can attend. In February 2013, the FAC will host the first State of the City Address for Oak Park.

Relay for Life, Ferndale – Since 2008, the Chamber has participated and raised funds for Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. This event is held annually in June in the football stadium at Ferndale High School.

Annual Chamber Blood Drive Challenge – Since 2007, the Ferndale Area Chamber has challenged the Berkley and Royal Oak Chambers during Dream Cruise week in August to see which Chamber can collect the most blood donations for the American Red Cross. Despite being a competition between the Chambers, the goal is to make sure the American Red Cross wins.

Meet the Candidates & Public Forums – Although the Ferndale Area Chamber is non-political and non-partisan, the Chamber acts as an informational conduit to ensure members are empowered to make informed decisions on candidates and public policy issues, especially those that impact businesses. In October 2009, the Chamber hosted a Meet the Candidates Forum for members to meet and learn about Ferndale City Council members. In February 2010, the Chamber assisted the Ferndale DDA in conducting three public forums regarding public parking issues, and in July 2010, the Chamber participated in and helped promote a public forum concerning potential changes to the Noise Ordinance and how it might impact business owners. And in April 2011, the Chamber hosted a public forum geared toward business owners to educate them on the Headlee Override Amendment on the City of Ferndale’s ballot in May 2011.
